Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park

Jedediah Smith State Park is one of three state parks that are included in Redwoods National Park. It is the furthest north and tends to see less visitors that the central and southern sections. It also has fewer trails.  However, Jed Smith has the highest concentration of old growth forest than the rest of the National Park.

The visitor center is just before you reach Hiuochi Hamlet on route 199. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. I asked several questions about hikes in the area and they made great recommendations. Besides the redwoods, the area prides itself on Salmon fishing. The visitor center has a unique display of stuffed Salmon with light waving on them as if they are swimming in water. The visitor center is open everyday from 9:00am to 5:00pm.
