Bar Island Trail

The Bar Island Trail is, of course, on Bar Island. A small Island just off the shore line of Bar Harbor. The island is only accessible during low tide when you can cross on an exposed sand bar. This gives you about 4 hours to explore the island, which is part of Acadia National Park. There is only one trail on the island. It is an out and back to the high point on the island. The trail on the island is about a half mile out so round trip is 1 mile. The high point is just a pile of rocks that accumulated over time by hikers and the park service placing a rock there. There is only a few view points along the way, mostly of the town of Bar Harbor and the sand bar.

It’s a pleasant walk through a few fields of Blue Lupine flowers just coming into bloom. However, don’t get caught up in the beauty so you don’t miss getting off the island before the tide comes in.
