Lava Point Overlook

Lava Point is the highest point in Zion National Park. It is a long drive from the south entrance of Zion National Park and takes nearly one and a half hours. The road to Lava Point is Kolob Terrace Road and is very scenic.Several trail heads into Zion are along Kolob Terrace, specifically, the West Rim Trail, Hop Valley and Wildcat Canyon.

Lava Point has a picnic area with several tables. It is much more comfortable temperature to eat outside. When I went in June there was a 20 degree temperature swing cooler at the point from the canyon floor. The point sits atop a lava bed which is easily seen when viewing out toward Zion canyon. You can make out the canyon in the distance. A worthwhile trip to escape the heat and change of scenery.
