Sunset Crater National Monument

Sunset Crater was created from an eruption about 900 years ago. The park highlights the resulting lava flows and cinder cone that cover the area. The park has several hiking trails and picnic areas. It is open from sunrise to sunset. Remember to stay on trails and to practice Leave No Trace principles.  The park itself does not have any overnight camping but there is camping just outside the park at Bonito Campground and the town of Flagstaff is approximately 20 miles away. There are plenty of hotels and food options there.
