I didn&#8217;t do any research on Akumal and thought I would explore a bit. I was happily surprised at the beautiful beach and research center studying Green Sea Turtles.\u00a0 I enjoyed it so much we returned the next day for more swimming and relaxing.\u00a0\u00a0 A great place to spend the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>On my most recent trip to PDC, I found why Akumal is so popular.\u00a0 There is an area south along the beach that has a grassy ocean floor bottom that is about 15 feet deep.\u00a0 Many sea turtle feed here to the delight of snorkelers.<\/p>\n<p>Just north of Akumal is Laguna Yal-ku.\u00a0 It is a popular snorkeling location similar to Xel-ha without the crowds.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I originally visited Akumal as a side trip during a trip to Playa Del Carmen.
