Directions:<\/span><\/p>\n

Take route 128 east from Moab.\u00a0 This travels along the Colorado River and is a Scenic By-way.\u00a0 After passing the Sorrel Ranch, the next right turn is Ranch Road.\u00a0 Turn right here and follow to the end for the trail head.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The Sylvester Trail is in the Onion Creek area of Moab and follows open desert through Professor Valley drainage.\u00a0 The trail passes several unique rock formations on the right which dominate the skyline.<\/h4>\n

    From the parking area, follow the trail which is relatively flat and easy to follow.\u00a0 The trail will cross a dry wash several times before it begins to ascend a bench on the right.\u00a0 The trail weaves along this bench gradually ascending.\u00a0 The rock formations include the “Preacher,” “the Nuns”, “Rectory” and Castleton Tower.\u00a0 Once the trail passes the foot of Castleton Tower, it will begin to descend slightly.\u00a0 When you reach a dirt 4×4 road, the Sylvester Trail ends and you return the way you came.\u00a0 It is possible to reach the La Sal Loop Road from here by crossing this dirt road and follow the trail to a second dirt road where you can turn right and follow out to the Loop road.<\/h4>\n

    I recommend this hike during the early morning.\u00a0 There is no protection from the sun so spring or fall may be the best time of year for this hike.<\/h4>\n
