La Fortuna Falls is a very popular destination for both tourist and locals.  This is a nice 1/2 day trip or you can make it a full day it you want to swim.  There is an entrance fee that seems to go up every year.  The fee is now up to $18.00 per person! Once you pay your fee, you get a wrist band and can enter the park.

The falls are about 70 meters high and the sound it makes if deafening. The hike to the falls is about one mile down hill from the entrance. Considerable work has been done to the trail with the installation of steps and railings.

It is a steep walk down to the bottom of the falls. Be sure to wear a bathing suit to swim at the falls and the area below that.  There has been extensive trail work and now it is a series of well constructed stairs to the bottom.  Years past you were able to swim right at the falls but this is now closed.  To swim, you have to walk down stream a little bit where there is a sandy bank.  It gets very crowded here.

When I first went here in 2006, the entry fee was only $10 and the trail was dangerous but added to the sense of adventure.  Now, there really is no adventure to this and at $18 with all the people you encounter, it really is no worth it any longer.
