From the parking area, this trail is very enjoyable as it travels through varied slick rock and sandstone features. The section from the parking area until it reaches West Canyon Road is easy to follow. After crossing West Canyon Road, the trail becomes a very sandy single track until it opens into a wide dry wash with even deeper sand that is very difficult to hike through. At the junction with the Padre Canyon Trail, the Three Ponds Trail continues in the wash and turns right as it travels into the White Cliffs. Return the way you came in.
Below is a loop hike using the Three Ponds Trail with the Padre Trail and Whiptail Trail.
