Wildhorse Canyon
San Rafael Swell, Utah

Wildhorse Canyon is the first canyon south of Temple Mountain road. After passing Goblin Valley road and driving through the Swell, Behind-the-Reef road (also known as Chute Canyon rd) is on the left. Travel this dirt road for about 1.6 miles. This is a primitive road to the trailhead which is marked. You can park at the signage however, it is possible to drive an additional mile and if careful, a passenger car could make but not recommended.

After 1 mile along the road which uses the wash occasionally, the canyon begins to narrow but not much. Wildhorse canyon does not have much in the way of slots and any obstacle is easily passed on the right. Still some very interesting features. I found the most interesting section was near the end. The canyon narrows a bit more but relatively shallow. The swirling sandstone in this section is excellent. Turn back when you reach Temple Mountain Wash or when you see the red sand embankment on the other side of the wash. Return the way you came.
