Potala

The Potala Palace is the highlight of Lhasa and the residence of the Dali Lama since 1649.  The current Dali Lama (14th) lives in exile in Dharmasala, India.  Access to the Potala has varied over the years.  My first visit in 2006, there were many places with in the palace you can visit.  Currently, visitors are only permitted in a small section of the palace and once you enter the inner sanctum, no photos are permitted.  Still this is a worthwhile visit.  Your guide will arrange for tickets and he/she must accompany you through the entire visit.

For me, the highlight is walking the Kora.  Many Tibetan pilgrims travel from all over Tibet to circumambulate in a clockwise direction
