GOULD MINE TRAIL
Saguaro National Park, Arizona

DETAILS

Directions:

The trail head to the Gould Mine Trail is actually before you get to the west entrance of the park. You can park in a dirt lot that sits just outside the park boundary.  The name of the trail head is Kings Canyon trail head.  You also access the Kings canyon trail here.

Equipment:

  • Sturdy hiking shoes
  • water
  • camera
  • sun protection
  • map

Hike Info:

Well maintained trail.  Be alert when crossing the wash.  Trail does not go up the wash.

Gould Mine Trail is an out and back, however, the trail ends on the Sendero Esperanza trail after hiking for 1.1 miles. Turning right here and hiking .4 miles will lead to the junction of the Kings Canyon trail. Then it’s a 1 mile hike back to the parking area. This makes for a nice short loop hike.

A few things to note. When walking away from the parking area, there appears to be a road and a trail to the right. The road is actually the beginning of the Kings Canyon trail. To access the Gould Mine Trail, stay to the left. This trail will take you down into a dry wash. BE CAREFUL HERE! You will see many footprints going up the dry wash. This is not the trail. There are no signs at this point and many people follow this wash. All would not be lost because the wash parallels the Kings Canyon trail. If this happens, just do the loop in reverse.

If you only want to access Gould Mine trail, when you drop down in the wash turn immediately left and down the wash. Again no signs. The trail is down the wash about 100 feet or so. I did this hike at sunset and it was an amazing sunset and hike.
