Laguna Torre

This is one of the more popular hikes in El Chalten and the best way to see Cerro Torre, one of the most famous spires around the Fitzroy Massive.  There are two trailheads with the main one being on the west side of town at the end of Avenida Charito.  There is plenty of parking along the road.  The trail ascends quickly from the road and once cresting the hill there are great views of the countryside ahead.  After less than one mile you arrive at Mirador Margarita, a small distant waterfall.  The trail rolls up and down to Mirador Torre and your first good glimpse of Cerro Torre.

After Mirador Cerro Torre, the trail offers great views of Cerro Torre framed by the surrounding forest and landscape.  The trail follows the valley created by Rio Fitzroy which is on the left as you ascend up the valley.  After 6 miles you begin to climb to a ridge and a great view of Laguna Torre and Cerro Torre in the background.  Descend down to the laguna for a great location for lunch.  It’s a little less than 6.5 miles to this point.

Return the way you came for a long 13 mile day.
