Hike Info:

Well maintained trail until you reach the top of the mesa. circumnavigation of the top is not a maintained trail.

Doe Mountain Trail is one of my favorite hikes in Sedona, especially to watch sunset from the mesa.  Parking is easy right along Boynton Pass Road.  The trail starts gradually as it passes over the Aerie Trail.  Continue walking toward the cliffs overhead.  The trail goes through 4 or 5 long switchbacks until you reach the summit of Doe Mountain.

Once on the summit, you have several options.  If going for sunset, turn immediately left and follow a social trail along the rim to a good point to watch sunset.  Another option is to continue walking straight to the opposite side of the mesa.  This side offers great views of Sedona, Cathedral Rock and Courthouse Butte.

For those more adventurous, after making your way to the opposite side of the mesa, turn right and follow the rim all the way around back to the trail.  This rim trail is more of a social trail and occasionally moves into the mesa but eventually moves back to the rim.  Along the southwestern side of the rim are some great view points to watch sunset.
